Description

A delicious strawberry basil bake perfect for dessert!


Ingredients

  • 12 Tbsp unsalted butter, softened (to grease the dish)
  • 32 oz fresh strawberries
  • 1 lemon, zest only
  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
  • 68 large fresh basil leaves, minced
  • 3 Tbsp all purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 lemon, zest only
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a 9×13 casserole dish with cold butter, rubbing it all over the bottom and up the sides.
  2. Whisk egg, milk, white granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and melted butter together until smooth.
  3. Add flour, baking powder, lemon zest, and salt and whisk until completely incorporated.
  4. Let the batter stand for about 10 minutes before adding over the strawberries.
  5. Wash and pat strawberries dry. Cut off the green leaves and cut strawberries into quarters.
  6. Combine cut strawberries with sugar, lemon zest, minced basil, and flour in a bowl. Mix it well and then spread it all evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of prepared batter all over the strawberry mixture. Make sure that there are even amounts throughout the top.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the top is beautifully golden-brown.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh strawberries.
  • Let the dish cool slightly before serving.
