Description

Delicious crispy fried shrimp, perfect for appetizers or a main dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Fresh cilantro or parsley (for garnish)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper if using.
  3. Toss the shrimp in the dry mixture until evenly coated. Shake off any excess flour.
  4. In a deep pan or fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Ensure the oil is hot enough by testing with a small piece of batter; it should bubble.
  5. Carefully add the coated shrimp to the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
  7. Once all shrimp are cooked, toss them in a bowl with fresh chopped cilantro or parsley.
  8. Plate the crispy shrimp and garnish with lemon wedges for squeezing over the top.

Notes

  • Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying to achieve the desired crispiness.
  • For extra flavor, marinate the shrimp in the dry mix for a few minutes before coating.
